September 2024 Newsletter

INTRODUCTION

This is the fourth and final one of our newsletters for 2024 as agreed at the AGM to keep you informed of various activities. Members can also use our Newsletter to pass on any information they would like to share and details for the next newsletter in early 2025 will need to reach me by 31st December

MEMBERSHIP

Our membership year started on 1st June and we currently have 50 members who have paid for the current year. We are currently chasing 5 organisations who have yet to renew but it is pleasing to have such a strong membership base.

GALA SPORTS AWARDS EVENING

A further reminder that our major event of the year will be held on Wednesday 9th October at Haslemere Hall. The formal invite for nominations was sent out by Adrian Blyth before the end of June and we have recently extended the closing date for nominations to Wednesday 18th September. This is your evening to celebrate successes within your organisations so please do  make sure you get those nominations in as soon as possible. We really would like to see a bumper number of applications this year so make sure you and your organization don’t miss out.

We have also recently sent out details of a raffle that we are holding to defray the cost of the evening so please do get some tickets sold and details returned by 30th September. Remember there are 3 prizes so a good chance to win a meal for 2 or a special ball commemorating the Euros

Even if your club does not have a winner do please ensure that you are represented at the evening – we want to see as many people at the event to celebrate the success of our winners

CREATE A STAR

As a part of the Gala Sports Awards Evening we will be presenting 8 Create a Star Bursaries. This year we had a bumper number of applications and our Independent Panel were hard challenged to agree the final 8 from the 26 received. All 8 of this years recipients have not received a Bursary before proving the excellent range of talent in our area.

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

With the exception of the Gala Sports Awards Evening our programme of events is completed for this year. Grateful thanks to Hindhead Bowls & Croquet Club and Haslemere Borders Athletic Club for hosting the evenings. We will continue to organize events in 2025 and any club willing to host an event should contact us.

THE EDGE

All of our clubs continue to make use of the hall although during the exam season only half of the hall was available. Woolmer Hill Sports Association are taking the lead in preparing the long term plan and Sport Haslemere will continue to support them in this endeavour. A lot of hard work has been going on behind the scenes and there are a number of positive signs that a long term solution can be found to suit all of our clubs. Sport Haslemere has recently endorsed a plan from the disability charity F6IT who are interested in bidding to take over the Edge in conjunction with Woolmer Hill Sports Association. Our endorsement is conditional on all of the Community Clubs (and the school) enjoying continued use of the hall. This will all take time but we are confident that the current arrangements will continue until the long term plan is formalised.

ANNUAL GRANTS

Applications for funding must be made by 31st October to be considered and must meet the new rules to which we referred in the last newsletter and the rules also appear on our web site.
